The program was educational. Mr. Rico-Illingsworth, the person from EMU, was an incredible addition to the program and provided fun and educational experiences.
Michelle Amanda Sanders, Summer 2013 Participant
The Summer Spanish Immersion program in Avila is the perfect opportunity. I did not want to miss a whole semester at UND and get behind on my classes, so this summer semester was a great option. The Spanish Immersion completely changed me. I am so much more confident in my Spanish language skills and love speaking, reading, writing, and using the language. My experience with all of the people in Avila was wonderful. It was really cool to spend time with my host family and really soak in the culture. Another cool thing about the Avila program is that our teachers were from Avila and so we got a total Spain education experience. It was not "edited" at all for us American students. They taught us the way that they would teach Spanish students and we learned so much about the language, the culture, and how everything works in Spain. I absolutely loved this program and would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to go abroad and get a taste of Spain, but does not have the time to spend a whole semester abroad. Great opportunity with wonderful people in a beautiful city.

Overall the program was wonderful. I would appreciate better matching with host families, as well as information on our host family before arriving. On our first day of school, we took a placement test to see what our level in Spanish was. I felt as though multiple students were place inaccurately, possibly because the test was the first experience in the new country, some students may not have tested to their best ability due to the newness of everything. Avila was a wonderful town and perfect location. It was small enough to explore the main attractions with enough entertainment as well as peaceful places. Avila was in a great location, only an hour bus ride from Madrid if you want to make a weekend visit. On our program we went on three guided tours of nearby cities, Segovia, Salamanca, and Toledo. These trips were great opportunities to explore new places with a guide. I loved meeting to people, especially locals. During this program I made many lifelong friends, from Spain, UND, and Eastern Michigan University.
